Ice production on the surface
KTI's plate ice systems operate at the optimum operating point and provide far more power than chilled water cooling alone. One kilogram of ice absorbs much more energy than one liter of cold water, so ice systems require less than 80% of pump energy to recirculate water.
The Underground Chiller (UC) from KTI has been specially developed for use in underground mining, where both the evaporator and the condenser can handle heavily contaminated water without immediately losing performance or even needing to be cleaned.
Chilled water plants
With the KTI chilled water plants, water can be cooled efficiently. The cold water is either fed directly into the mine where it is circulated. Alternatively, the cold water can be routed directly above ground via large air coolers. Likewise, the chilled water plant can be used to pre-cool water for ice production, this greatly increases the overall efficiency of the plant.
