Flake Ice – Ideal for Fish Packing

Flake ice cools fish very quickly, thanks to its large heat exchange ­surface area. Harvested without defrost, flake ice is dry and sub-cooled.
The benefits of this dryness are two-fold: a better cooling efficiency and easier ice handling.
First, the ice is colder and 100 % of its latent heat of fusion, the main source of the cooling energy, is available for product chilling. Flake ice therefore provides powerful cooling capacity.
Second, dry flake ice stores well in refrigerated bins and containers, without freezing together and forming blocks. It packs well, using minimal space in fish boxes, cushions and protects the fragile seafood products for long hours.

Slurry Ice – For Rapid Pre-cooling

On-board fishing vessels, fast chilling and temperature-control should be first ­priority. Even before fish cleaning and evisceration…
Yet the crew has little time for the handling and fish-icing tasks. Therefore, dropping the catch directly from the net into slurry ice is the quickest and most effective method to bring down its temperature near 0 °C. Slurry ice is simply made on-board, from seawater in unlimited quantities.
If equipped with slurry ice machines, fishing vessels needn’t ­carry fresh ­water or ice when leaving the port ­anymore.

Plate Ice – Melts Slowly

Plate ice is a thicker ice that melts slowly. It stores well in non-refrigerated containers, and can be transported for long hours without melting too much, where refrigerated lorries and storages aren’t available. It can be produced at a higher evaporating temperature (-10 °C) in a very energy-efficient ­manner.

Block Ice – Long-lasting Cooling Source

The heat-exchange surface-area of a block of ice is even more limited.
In tropical climates it can be transported in non-refrigerated lorries to remote user points without melting too much.
