Surface Ice Cooling

  • Large cooling capacities in standard ISO containers
  • 24/7 operation
  • Expandable and mobile
  • Stackable on Mobile Ice Storages (MIS) for thermal storage applications
  • Unmatched performance
  • Low power consumption
  • First-class components
  • Ozone-friendly refrigerants

The modular ice factories are made up of containerized Plate Ice Plants (PLIP). Several PLIPs with individual capacities up to 240 tons/day, make up a 5, 10 or 20 Megawatt ice cooling system. Ice is introduced from surface to underground ice melting dams and provides the required cooling capacity for air and tool cooling. As cooling demand underground increases, the system ensures swift installation and easy expansion.

Thermal storage is also possible with the addition of Mobile Ice Storages (MIS)  to produce the ice at low electricity price and deliver it at peak times. No building is required. In addition, the units can easily be moved to another location if required.

Plate Ice Plants from 20 to 240 tons/day

The solid plate ice with 100 % Ice Mass Fraction (IMF) provides pure cooling energy underground. The amount of water in circulation through the mine and pumped-returned is reduced five-fold at least, saving 80 % of the mine pumping energy. Once melted, it is still colder than any water introduced from surface (zero degree instead of 15°C approx.). Plate ice is produced with minimal power. It falls down the shaft without bridging and jamming and reaches deep below ground in a couple of minutes. Ice can also be mixed with service water underground and pumped to the stope.
